Rank 1 Protect While using a shield you gain Parry bonus equal to 4 - Base Shield Bonus to a maximum of Rank.
Rank 2 Shield Block You may ready an action to counter a melee attack within reach before your next action. When attempting to counter an attack in this way, make an opposed attack roll vs the attacker's unmodified attack roll. Your attack roll gains a bonus equal to the amount of Shield you have. If your opposed roll is greater than the attack roll, you counter the attack preventing it from dealing damage. Attacks prevented in this way do not hit any Wards, reactive armors, or other defenses.
Rank 3 Shield Wall You gain +1 Shield Bonus +1 Armor Penetration Reduction whenever you are granted a shield bonus to defense.
Rank 4 Improved Shield Block Character may perform Shield Block as a Standard Action instead of a Full Round Action. This allows the character to move on their turn, then ready a Shield Block.
Rank 5 Block & Strike Character may perform a Shield Block and a regular melee attack as a Full Round action.
