Effect | The caster infuses an object with mana from their mana reserves up to a maximum of their Magic score. The mana in the gem is available to the bearer as if it was part of their normal mana reserves, and may be consumed or drained accordingly.
The object does not necessarily have to be a gem, but must be an object of precious value and precise structure. Alternatives include a dragon scale, a crystal, a ring of precious metal, or similar. Objects are subject to Storyteller approval, and a guideline is that the object should have a relative value of at least 10-20 gold per mana stored. The object should also be large enough to easily hold, but small enough so as not to consume appreciable weight. Tiny gems that would be difficult to pick up off a flat surface should be avoided. The Mana Gem may be given away, stolen, dropped, stored, or otherwise separated from the caster, and its reserves available to anyone else who becomes the bearer. There is no time limit to how long the mana may exist within the gem, and cases have been known where mana gems from 100,000 years ago still retain their storage. |
