Requirements

  • Rank 1-5, 1 CC point per Rank or 3 GXP x Rank

Effects

Rank 1 Shield Wall While using a shield you gain Parry bonus equal to 4 - Base Shield Bonus to a maximum of Rank.
Rank 2 Shield Block As a Standard Action you prepare to counter a melee attack within reach before your next action. When attempting to counter an attack in this way, make an opposed attack roll using the wielded weapon skill vs. the attacker's unmodified attack roll. Your attack roll gains a bonus equal to your Shield Bonus + Shield Enhancement. If your opposed roll is greater than the attack roll, you counter the attack preventing it from dealing damage. Attacks prevented in this way do not activate wards, reactive armors, or other defenses unless they explicitly state otherwise. On a successful block, the attacker suffers Non-Lethal Damage equal to the difference between the Shield Block roll and the attack.
Rank 3 Protection You gain +1 Shield Bonus +1 Armor Penetration Reduction whenever you are granted a shield bonus to defense.
Rank 4 Synchronized Movement As a Move Action you prepare to move in sync with a chosen ally. This allows the character to delay their movement on their turn until later in the round during that ally's turn. This maneuver may be combined with Shield Block. Example:

On Swetelove's turn she activates Synchronized Movement on Esi'Disi, delaying her move action until Esi'Disi's turn. She could choose to attack an adjacent foe with her Standard Action immediately, or use Shield Block. If at any point before her next turn a melee attack is performed within reach, she may choose to counter it with Shield Block.

Rank 5 Block & Strike Character may ready a Shield Block and perform a regular melee attack as a Full Round action.
