Escape Artistry represents the ability to break out of bonds, restraints, or other constricting event. Using this skill is usually a Full Action, however it may be even longer.

Escape Artist may be used in unusual situations, however not all binding circumstances allow for an Escape Artist attempt. There are some general guidelines that should be used by players and Storytellers:

  • Typically, in order for an Escape Artist attempt to even be permitted, the bonds must have some form of being broken, removed, dispelled, or displaced.
  • If the attempt requires that a movement take place, such as escaping from a hangman's noose requires descending to the ground when successful, then that movement is permitted as part of the action, within reason.
  • If the attempt requires a movement that is not possible, such as being completely buried 100ft under the nearest surface or exit, then movement is not permitted, and it is likely that the attempt will not even be permitted.
  • Some attempts are more naturally a use of Dexterity, such as slipping your hand out of a shackle, and some are more naturally a use of Strength, such as snapping the string tying your hands.
  • Some attempts may have a reasonable use of Dexterity OR Strength, whichever is higher.

The Storyteller has full discretion over whether or not an attempt is permitted, which primary statistic is available to use for the attempt, and success/failure results.
