Passive:

  • You may use Sleight of Hand, Disable Device, and Pick Lock to interact with magical objects, artifacts, or traps (as long as they are physical or have a clear magical interface) even if they normally require a casting skill like Magecraft Skill. You gain +2 to these checks when used in this way.
  • When handling cursed or trapped items, you may roll Sleight of Hand or Disable Device to delay or avoid triggering the effect (flat difficulty 4–5).
  • You may conceal the use or activation of magical items as a Sleight of Hand roll vs. all witnesses’ Perception. This allows secret wand usage, surreptitious trap disarming, or item switching in plain sight.

Active:

  • You may attempt to activate a magical item you would not normally be able to use (e.g., a wand, scroll, or spell-trigger item).
  • Roll Intelligence or Dexterity + Sleight of Hand + Snake Rank vs. the item’s Potency (or 2 + Spell Rank). On a success, you trigger the item as if you were a valid user, even if you do not meet class or magical requirements.
  • If the item normally requires mana to use, you must pay the mana cost. Scrolls must still be consumed.
  • On a failure, nothing happens, and the item may backlash (Storyteller’s discretion).
