The Shadows

The Shadows are a sect of assassins within the Su-Lan priesthood.

Su-Lan, and by extension her followers, is neutral. She seeks balance for the stability of existence. So she will not (nor will her followers) partake in conflicts that could disrupt the balance. That being said, the Shadows perceive death as the natural conclusion of all things rather than something to be inherently feared, nor do they consider taking life to be inherently immoral.

Su-Lan gains power when people die, through the process of their souls moving through the Barrier to a pool of souls within Stygia. Thus to kill is to strengthen the goddess and is, consequently, a form of worship. However, the Shadows are considered a branch of Fate more than of Death. If the sect accepts a job to eliminate a target, it is because they have determined that it is within the will of the goddess for that target's soul to join Stygia. It is their Fate.
